Arriving in Ghana for December: the entry checklist
Coming home for Christmas, or visiting for the first time? These are the things you need when you land in Accra, checked against the official sources.
The short answer
Ghanaians and dual nationals can enter with a valid Ghana Card. Most visitors from outside ECOWAS need an e-visa from evisa.immigration.gov.gh before they fly. Everyone aged 9 months and over needs a yellow fever certificate. There is no landing card any more, and cash above US$10,000 must be declared.

Ghanaians and dual nationals
Since 1 March 2022, the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has admitted Ghanaians and dual nationals who arrive with a valid Ghana Card. This does not apply to anyone who has given up Ghanaian citizenship.
Keep your passport with you anyway. You will need it for the flight back, and for any country you pass through on the way.
Visitors: the e-visa
Citizens of ECOWAS countries do not need a visa, and Ghana has visa waiver agreements with a few other countries. Since 25 May 2026, most other visitors apply online at evisa.immigration.gov.gh before they travel. Check the portal for your nationality. Graphic Online reported that holders of African passports apply free and others pay US$260.
Your passport should be valid for at least six months beyond your stay, and an e-visa does not guarantee entry. Reports say decisions take 48 hours, but the portal itself gives 96 hours for standard processing, so apply well before your flight.
