What you can take in hand luggage at Accra International Airport (KIA)
New scanners at Terminals 2 and 3 mean fewer things come out of your bag. Some rules have not changed at all.
The short answer
At lanes with the new scanners in Terminals 2 and 3, laptops and liquids can stay in your bag, but each liquid must still be 100ml or less. Power banks and spare lithium batteries go in your hand luggage only, within your airline's limits. Cash above US$10,000 must be declared.

First, the name
Kotoka International Airport was renamed Accra International Airport in February 2026. The airport code is still ACC. Most people still call it KIA or Kotoka, so you will see all three names on tickets, signs and websites for a while.
What changed in July 2026
In July 2026, Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) announced new security screening equipment at Terminals 2 and 3. With the new system:
- Laptops and other large electronics can stay in your bag.
- Shoes and belts stay on unless you are picked for extra checks.
- Liquids, aerosols and gels can stay in your bag.
GACL said the new equipment would be phased in alongside the old procedures, so at some lanes you may still be asked to take things out. Do what the security officer at your lane asks.
Liquids
The new scanners change where your liquids go, not how much you can carry. Each container in your hand luggage must still hold 100ml or less. Put larger bottles of perfume, shea butter, drinks or sauces in your checked bag.
