How to renew your Ghana passport in the US
Ghanaians in the US renew through Washington DC or New York. The process starts online, but you still have to go in once for biometrics.
The short answer
Ghanaians in the US renew through the Embassy in Washington DC or the Consulate General in New York. You apply and pay online, go in person once for your photo and fingerprints, and the passport is posted back to you. The Washington embassy lists US$130 for a new or renewed passport. Allow up to 8 weeks.

Which office to use
Neither mission publishes a list of the states it covers. If you are not sure which to use, email the one nearer to you and ask. The New York consulate's passport hours are Monday to Thursday, 10am to 3pm.
| Mission | Address | Passport contact |
|---|---|---|
| Embassy, Washington DC | 3512 International Drive NW, Washington DC 20008 | 202-686-4520, passport.washington@mfa.gov.gh |
| Consulate General, New York | 19 East 47th Street, New York, NY 10017 | 212-832-1300 (extension 203, 239 or 240), nypassport@mfa.gov.gh |
Old embassy and consulate websites still come up in search, with fees from years ago or no page at all. The current ones are washington.mfa.gov.gh and newyork.mfa.gov.gh. Many mission websites went down in August 2026, so if a page will not load, email the passport address above.
